Writing Poetry
COL 201
Spring 2008
Section: 01

Lisette Model once said "There is nothing so mysterious as a thing clearly presented," which is the premise this course will be conducted upon. We will pay very close attention to the tactile impressions the world makes upon us, and how things considered common can contain an amazing amount of metaphoric power. Although this is a poety workshop in which we will be critiquing each other's poetry, there will be a heavy load of reading, for one cannot create poetry in a literary vacuum. The readings will consist of poetry and prose, as well as work by authors that students bring in to share with the class. Some of the writers whose work we will look at include: Linda Gregg, Frank Stanford, Sherman Alexie, Richard Hugo, Yannis Ritsos, among others.
