Animating Science

Animating Science will provide first-year students with a hands-on introduction to creating science films within the virtual world of 3D graphics. Students will learn to work with computer animation software to create 3D models of scientific concepts and processes. The course focuses on the challenges of visualizing abstract scientific concepts, understanding the rhetoric of images, and mastering technical skills. Grading is based on a series of exercises leading up to a final project. The final project will use MAYA to visualize a scientific concept, form, or process that will be introduced to the class by Wesleyan science faculty. This course will meet once a week on Mondays. Enrollment is limited to 8 students. First-year students have priority.
