Elia Kazan was one of the most successful and influential cross-platform artists of the 20th century, and his films are most sophisticated, personal, and fully-developed projects of his body of work. This course serves as an exploration of Kazan's directorial style in the medium of cinema--how he discovers, defines, and experiments with the form as he goes--and his lasting impact on American filmmaking. Screenings will encompass selections from Kazan's perennially celebrated films to his underrated masterpeieces, including many of his lesser-known movies that are seldom screened.
