Contemporary British and American Fiction

This course will introduce students to some of the most influential British and American novels written after 1945. In addition to close readings of these challenging and rewarding texts, this course will introduce students to key terms in postwar literary history such as modernism, postmodernism, romance, postcolonialism, realism, and magical realism. Central to our investigation of Anglo-American fiction will be the divergent political and economic fortunes of the United States on the one hand and the United Kingdom on the other. |
