Contemporary British and American Fiction
ENGL 213
Spring 2017
Section: 01

This course will introduce students to some of the most influential British and American novels of the last 35 years. In addition to close readings of these challenging and rewarding texts, this course will introduce students to key terms in postwar literary history such as postmodernism, romance, postcolonialism, realism, and magical realism. Central to our investigation of Anglo-American fiction will be the divergent political and economic fortunes of the U.S. on the one hand and the U.K. on the other.
