Contemporary Plays: Writing and Reading|

Students will read plays currently or recently produced around the nation and write short-form dramatic pieces in response to and in conversation with the techniques and styles encountered. The course may be taken separately but is intended as a prelude to THEA399, Advanced Playwriting: Long Form.

|Examination and Assignments: |
Students will write a brief response to each assigned play read, with an emphasis on writing techniques employed. Students will biweekly write 10-20 page plays in dynamic conversation with reading from the week prior.
|Additional Requirements and/or Comments: |
Students must have taken intro to playwriting and one other creative writing class. Students will submit 10-page writing samples (plays only) to the instructor.
For the Writing Certificate, this course counts as an introductory course and as a workshop.
